Annual physical examinations for our adults
(ages 1-6) are essential for early detection to help identify
potential problems before more serious symptoms develop. We
strongly urge proactive treatment to minimize the onset of problems
as pets age.
Intestinal Parasite Testing, through centrifugation,
is recommended annually to analyze your pet’s stool and
reduce the risk of parasitic infection to your pet and to your
family. This method, the only one used here at Aurora Pet
Hospital, is much more accurate at detecting internal parasite
eggs in infected dogs and cats than the old method known as fecal
flotation, which is used in many veterinary hospitals. Deworming
medication is dispensed regularly, "strategic deworming," to
keep your pet free from intestinal parasites.
In addition to monthly preventatives administered orally, we
carry Advantage Multi, a monthly topical application that also
provides flea control and protection against many internal parasites.
Heartworm Testing and monthly prevention is
recommended to protect your pet from contracting a serious and
potentially fatal infection of the heart and major blood vessels. Heartworm
disease is carried by mosquitoes. In addition to monthly
protection given orally, we carry Advantage Multi, a monthly
topical application that also provides flea control.
Dental Care is a key component to protecting
your pet from developing serious health problems in addition
to painful tooth loss and gum disease. Accumulation of
plaque and tartar in your pet’s mouth can cause periodontal
disease and infection can spread through the blood stream to
your pet’s major organs. Signs and symptoms of poor
oral health include persistent bad breath, sensitivity or bleeding
around the mouth, pawing at the mouth, loss of appetite and difficulty
eating or chewing. Regular dental cleaning and tooth polishing
is a service we perform for your pet while under general anesthesia.
